- General structural issues
- Paintwork deterioration
- We can also coordinate the treatment of Concrete Cancer.
What is Concrete Cancer?
Concrete Cancer is one of the more serious structural problems. Concrete Cancer is caused by many factors, including carbonation, moisture efflorescence and salt.
When concrete cracks, moisture penetrates it, causing the steel reinforcement to rust. The layers of rusting steel push away the concrete surrounding it, resulting in concrete falling away, the exposure of steel, and the continuation and escalation of the problem.
Why you should be concerned about Concrete Cancer, and what to do about it…
As the concrete moves, more water gets into the steel, causing further rusting. That means that the problem continues to worsen, weakening the strength of the concrete. This often results in broken pieces of concrete falling away, posing a significant safety risk, especially in multi-storey buildings.
If you suspect that your building has Concrete Cancer, it is critical that you get it treated as soon as possible. Let us know, and we can arrange a qualified engineer to assess the situation, and determine a treatment solution for you. This may include removing any flaking concrete, removing rust from the reinforcing steel, applying anti corrosives to the steel, applying a fresh render to restore the original look of the concrete, and waterproofing.
